Features
A small Web Server is built into our Couch Potato Pro software
and runs in the background on a
networked PC of your choice. This PC should also be connected to a Cybermate
Control Unit via its RS232 serial port so that commands can be sent to control
and receive status from your home or business using any web browser.
Because the Server runs in the background, it does not effect any other active applications. No software needs to be installed on remote PCs or MACs, other than a browser like Netscape or Internet Explorer.
From any browser in your home, office, or on the Internet, you simply enter Couch Potato’s web address to bring up your home’s Couch Potato, Channels, or Jukebox web page. You then just click on screen items to control or get the status of your home or business.
Up to four users can be on line simultaneously, controlling different zones without effecting each other. For example, mom can be in the living room using a web tablet to control the equipment there, while dad is in the office controlling things there.
From anywhere with a Browser you can:
Setup
Since a Web Server is built into our Couch Potato
software, the PC it is running on, will be the web server location. It is assumed that you have networking already setup in your home or
business and two or more computers that have browser capability like Netscape or
Internet Explorer. You can also access control your home or business from
anywhere in the world via the Internet just by entering your static IP address.
If your IP address is dynamic, such as with most cable service providers, you
will need a router that has a port forwarding* feature for Internet access.
You setup control over your multimedia gear including lighting in your house or business with the Couch Potato Pro software and one or more Cybermate Control Units. See the Couch Potato User’s Guide for details.
If you have one or more video cameras connected to your PC, the web server built into Couch Potato will "serve up" the video from these cameras as well.
If jukebox CD control is also desired you set this up with our CD Jukebox software which is now included with Couch Potato Pro. See the CD Jukebox User’s Guide for details.
* Port forwarding is a router feature that forwards its current IP address to a DDNS service provider, like www.DynDns.org, which is free. This type of free service allows you to alias your dynamic IP address to a static host name such as YourName.DynDns.org.
